The Whyalla community is encouraged to explore the future of hydrogen at the State Government’s new Hydrogen Information Hub, based in the heart of Westlands Shopping Centre.

The hub serves as an education platform to provide locals with information about the Hydrogen Jobs Plan and the opportunities it presents for the region and the state as a whole.

Further accelerating the Upper Spencer Gulf’s transition to becoming a globally-recognised powerhouse in renewable energy generation, the Government of South Australia has committed $593 million to the Hydrogen Jobs Plan, which will see construction of a world-leading hydrogen power station, electrolysers and storage facility 9 kilometres north of Whyalla, just off the Lincoln Highway.

At the information hub, visitors will receive information about the Hydrogen Jobs Plan and the Port Bonython Hydrogen Hub, as well as the significant opportunities these projects offer to the community, local businesses and the broader population of South Australia.

A highlight of the hub experience includes a 3D model showcasing the Hydrogen Jobs Plan facility, complemented by immersive exploration using VR headsets or tablets.

The hub also incorporates a project management office for the Office of Hydrogen Power SA and its project delivery partners. With civil works and construction on the hydrogen facility slated to commence later this year, the region anticipates a rapid surge in project staff and professional services workers throughout the year.

The Hydrogen Information Hub will be open from Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 3pm or by appointment. It is located at Shop 73, Westlands Shopping Centre, Whyalla Norrie.

Quotes attributed to Tom Koutsantonis

The people of Whyalla are at the epicentre of opportunity the Hydrogen Jobs Plans creates – but they naturally want to know more about it.

This hub provides the opportunity to ask us questions directly, and hear first-hand how the Hydrogen Jobs Plan and broader State Prosperity Project will work, and what we stand to gain from their implementation.

Quotes attributable to Whyalla Mayor Phill Stone

This facility will be fantastic for our community, as it provides a one-stop shop for residents to find all the information they need, as well as having direct access to some of the key players involved in the project.

I encourage everyone to check out the new 3D models to get a better understanding of the plant, as well as learning all they can about hydrogen and what it means for our city’s future.

I also commend the State Government for prioritising local businesses to fit out and maintain the facility, ensuring benefits for the Whyalla economy.
